چکیده

HPV: human papillomavirus MCC: Merkel cell carcinoma MCV: Merkel cell polyomavirus PCR: polymerase chain reaction SCC: squamous cell carcinoma M erkel cell carcinoma (MCC), an uncommon and highly aggressive cutaneous malignancy, usually occurs on the sundamaged skin of the elderly and is characterized by coexpression of neuroendocrine markers and CK20, a discriminant from other types of visceral neuroendocrine neoplasias. Since the discovery of Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV), many researchers have confirmed its presence in about 80% of cutaneous MCCs. Although some cutaneous MCCs were reported to be associated with squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), such combined cases accounted for only aminor portion and the viral status appeared to be different from pure MCC. Rarely, primary MCCs occur on the female vulva, with or without combined SCCs, the latter is often human papillomavirus (HPV) related.

Detection of Human Papillomavirus DNA by PCR in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma from Turkmen Sahra, North-East of Iran

Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA has been identified in esophageal carcinomas. However, the incidence of HPV varies significantly in different geographical locations. In this study, neoplasms from Turkmen Sahra, a region in Golestan province in northeast part of Iran, with a high incidence of squamous cell carcinoma were analyzed for the presence of HPV DNA. Turkmen Sahra is located in the cancer...

Merkel cell polyomavirus-positive Merkel cell carcinoma in a patient with epidermodysplasia verruciformis.

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is a rare auto somal recessive disease characterised by abnormal susceptibility to disease-specific human papillomaviruses (HPVs), possibly due to suppressed cellular innate im munity. EVER1/TMC6 or EVER2/TMC8 gene mutations are often found in EV (1). All patients with EV usually have similar skin lesions from their childhood, involving disseminated flat w...

Role of the Human Papillomavirus Infectio in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Background and Objective: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the possible etiologic factors  in development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In this study we aimed to study the  role of HPV in ESCC. Patients and Methods:In this study, 140 cases of ESCC were analyzed for the HPV DNA by  polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using GP5+/GP6+ primers for L1 open reading frame (ORF) to  am...

Detection of Human Papillomavirus in Osophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma samples in Mazandaran Province, Iran

We examined 170 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples from esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients. All subjects live in Mazandaran province, a region with high incidence rate of esophageal cancer and have become known as the “Asian Esophageal Cancer Belt”. Samples were tested for HPV-DNA by MY09/11 and Gp5+/6+ general primers using nested PCR. Of the 170 ESCC samples, 86 (50.6%) were ma...
